The run into the Rio Olympics is being overshadowed by two disturbing stories. The first, currently attributed to mosquitos, relates to Zika, which Toni and I will no doubt discuss several times over the next ten weeks.
The second, entirely of human making, relates to the use of performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) by athletes. In the latest turn of events the World Anti Doping Authority has suspended the anti-doping laboratory in Madrid whilst Russian former 400m runner Tatyana Firova, who recently failed a drug test, has suggested sportsmen and women would not be able to “achieve high results” without performance-enhancing substances.
I put this Toni. His response is unequivocal.
